Definition

A shareholder is anyone who owns a share of a company. A share is an ownership unit of a company. They are entitled to the right to vote, a share in dividends declared by the company, limited liability, pre-emption rights and a share in assets left at liquidation.

Example

Shareholder can buy shares of a certain stock in stock markets, the power they have to vote is proportional to the amount of money invested.
